ACN Carriages are part of all N Sets - the First class carriage, and the carriage within N type sets containing the conductors van.

Seating 52 First Class passengers, seats can recline, and rotate (for facing-forward travel in both directions). At the back of the seats there are retractable meal trays (which include a cup holder), and a storage pouch. Below the seats, is a retractable stretched-U-shape footrest. Carpets are blue, as are the curtains, which are in a blue tint.

Each ACN type carriage contains above seat luggage racks. There is also luggage space, a drinking fountain, and two rubbish bins, at the West End of the carriage. A toilet is located in the West End vestibule area.

Access to ACN carriages from platforms is by manual opening and closing doors at the West End of the carriage. Entry from the East End- which is where the conductors van is, is strictly limited to V/Line staff & people with bikes or other similar accompanied items. The East End conductors doors are wider than the other doors in the original 'N' type carriages- this is the case for easier loading of luggage, and for wheelchair access.

Note regarding access to ACN Carriages:
ACN57, part of set 'N19', has been fitted with power closing and locking doors, controlled in a similar fashion to that of the H car sliding doors, at the West End passenger entry doors (not the conductors van)

Click Here for more information on the power closing and locking doors fitted to N19 - which may eventually be fitted to all 'N' sets.

The conductors van area of the ACN carriage includes a seat and desk for the conductor, a P.A. Announcement system, several luggage & parcel racks, brake gauges, an Emergency Brake switch, lighting switches, and cupboards for general supplies. It also contains a wheelchair ramp, and a ladder- for emergency purposes.

Air Conditioning and heating is fitted in all ACN carriages. Automatic push-button doors allow entry into the main seating area, and for travel in between other carriages.

All ACN carriages, excluding ACN54, run off Dual Power systems- meaning that power is generally supplied to them by the means of Head End Power (HEP) from a locomotive or powervan, however, if the Program Logic Controller (a component of the Dual Power Supply system) doesn't detect HEP from a locomotive, or if there's a technical problem with the HEP being supplied, the individual diesel alternators under the carriages automatically start up and provide power to the car.
