BH Carriages are part of all but four H Sets (VSH29, SH30, SH31, SH34). They are found as the second, third, or fourth car of a consist.

They were converted in the mid 1980's from ex Harris Suburban train Trailer (T & BT) cars in order to provide an upgraded service to inter-urban passengers.

Seating 63 Economy passengers, seats are fixed in a 3x2 set up facing each other, except for the seats at the far East & West ends, which are positioned at the ends of the carriage and along the side walls (opposite the toilet at the East End)

There is luggage space, a toilet, and a rubbish bin at the East End of the carriage. Carpets are dark red, and the curtains are of a brownish colour.

BH carriages do not contain above seat luggage racks, however, luggage can be stowed at the East End of the carriage.

Access to BH carriages from platforms is by manual opening, self closing (controlled by the conductor) double sliding side doors at both the East and West Ends of the carriage. These doors are wide enough to fit wheelchairs through.

Air Conditioning and heating is fitted in all BH carriages, along with a map of the Victorian Rail Network. Manually opening doors allow travel between other carriages.

NOTE: Two carriages, BH152 & BH153 are longer by 15ft (about 4.5m), and contain 87 seats. That, along with the different window layout, is the only notable difference between the short and the long BH Cars.

BH carriages rely on HEP (Head End Power) from a locomotive or power van, relayed on by the BCH or BTH Car for power.
