A buffet service is offered on most InterCity V/Line services.

Operating from the buffet module in the BRN carriage (Car B), it offers a range of hot and cold food including Pies, Hot Dogs, Pasties, Chocolate bars, chips and rolls, and a range of soft drinks, juice and alcoholic beverages. On some lines, newspapers are also offered.

The buffet is operated by a conductor, and is typically open for most of the trip between the destination and Melbourne.

After the buffet has closed...

The buffet on all up services closes between 20-40 minutes upon arrival into Southern Cross so that the conductor operating the buffet can stock take, clean utensils and appliances, and prepare the food and drinks to be offloaded upon arrival into Southern Cross.

Text Box: A small vehicle with a refrigerated section attached to the back of it to cater for buffet food and drinks at Southern Cross, awaiting loading of stock from the buffet of an up service.
Upon arrival into Southern Cross, if the set is not returning on another train with a buffet service available, the food and drinks are removed from the buffet by both the buffet conductor and another employee, who drives a small vehicle equipped to cater for food and drinks to be taken to their off train storage location.

This process occurs in the reverse order when the buffet module is required to have food and drinks moved into it to provide a buffet for a down service.
