They can only be powered from Head End Power
(HEP) from a N Class locomotive or a powervan, as they do not have a
dual power system.
Their
capacities vary, generally around the 300 mark though - ideal to
cater for the large amounts of commuters using peak hour
services to the city in the morning, and from in the afternoons.
Their are 52 First Class seats
in the
ACZ carriage, and usually over 200 in
Economy.
Neither of the VZ sets have snack bars - as all
BRN buffet cars
are permanently marshalled in N type sets, plus the purpose of
VZ sets is to increase seating capacity for peak services.
Wheelchair
access is available to disabled passengers via the wide East End
entrance doors of the BZN carriages, or when marshalled in the
set, ex WCR carriages ACZ252, ACZ257 & BZ267.
A
conductors van, which is significantly smaller than that of an
ACN type carriage can be found at the East End of the
ACZ
carriage.
There are two VZ sets-
VZ1 & VZ2, with the makeup of these sets changing on a monthly or
so basis.
Note:
Usually during the school
holidays, VZ sets are broken up so that the carriages from them
can be added to other N type sets to provide more capacity for
this busy period of time. This has also occured during recent
Seniors' Weeks.
