They
have a capacity of 282
seats*, with 52 First Class
seats, and 230 in Economy.
The second most common type
of 'N' set, the four car N
Sets can be seen in
operation primarily behind N
Class locos, but lately,
since Warrnambool services
have returned to VLP, they
have been seen behind A
Classes.
* - Excludes
FN2, which has 298 seats, 52
First Class and 246 Economy.
Power to
the sets is supplied by the
form of a Dual Power Supply
. Generally Head End Power (HEP)
from a N Class locomotive
will power the cars,
however, if the Program
Logic Controller (a
component of the Dual Power
Supply system) doesn't
detect HEP from a
locomotive, or if there's a
technical problem with the
HEP being supplied, the
individual diesel
alternators under the
carriages automatically
start up and provide power
to the cars.
Each
FN Set has a snack bar- in
the BRN car, four toilets
(one per carriage), and a
conductors van which also
has sufficient luggage space
(at the East End of the
ACN
Car). Wheelchairs can be
placed in the
BZN
carriage, where there are
two special doors (one each
side) and a wheelchair
accessible toilet.
FN
sets can be seen on all
V/Line Pass. urban and
interurban line services,
including Geelong,
Warrnambool, Ballarat,
Bacchus Marsh, Bendigo,
Traralgon, Sale, Swan Hill,
Bairnsdale, Albury &
Shepparton trains.
Additional 'N', 'Z' & 'S'
type carriages can be added
to them to increase seating
capacity.

Set 'FN19' has been fitted with power
closing and locking doors, controlled in a
similar fashion to that of the H car sliding
doors. |
Currently, there are eight
FN Sets, with all
of these sets are in the
current V/Line
Red/White/Blue livery with the present V/Line logo. |
