MTH Cars are owned by Connex and used on the Stony Point diesel service.

Originally in V/Line ownership from when they were converted from Harris suburban carriages in 1984 until the privatisation of V/Line and The Met in 1999, they were designed for use as trailers with the DRC railcars, and had their own diesel alternator set fitted to provide power for the car (the DRC's couldn't provide power through to the MTH's)

When DRC's were withdrawn from service in the early 1990's, the MTH's were used on several interurban services, but in the end became regulars on the Stony Point line.

Seating 63 Economy passengers, seats are fixed in a 3x2 set up facing each other, except for the seats at the far East & West ends, which are positioned at the ends of the carriage and along the side walls (opposite the toilet at the East End)

There is luggage space, a toilet* and a rubbish bin at the East End of the carriage. Carpets are dark red, and the curtains are of a brownish colour. One Metcard machine per carriage, and validators in each doorway are installed, seeing as the MTH's only operate on the Stony Point line as a Connex service, requiring passengers to hold a valid Metcard.

* - Due to ongoing vandalism and drug use, the toilets were locked out of use for passengers in early 2004.

MTH carriages do not contain above seat luggage racks, however, luggage can be stowed at the East End of the carriage.

Access to MTH carriages from platforms is by manual opening and closing double sliding side doors. These doors are NOT like the other H carriage doors in which they can all be simultaneously locked by the conductor whilst in transit - they CAN be opened by passengers at any time! These doors are also wide enough to fit wheelchairs through.

Air Conditioning and heating is fitted in all MTH carriages, and manually opening doors allow travel between other carriages.

The conductor, who is generally a Connex Station Officer from Frankston, has an allocated seating position opposite the toilet in all of the four MTH carriages. Signs on the wall alert passengers that the area must be kept clear for the on train crew.

For power, MTH carriages rely on their own Dunlite 35kVA Diesel Alternator unit which powers the lighting, air conditioning, heating and Metcard machine & validators. There is no HEP installation, nor is one required, as they provide their own power and are only hauled by A Class locos.

They are seen behind A class locos on the Stony Point line, and on twice-weekly transfers between Frankston and Spencer Street. Transfers occur for maintenance to be carried out on the cars, and for the locos to change over. A Stony Point line timetable and a Stony Point transfer timetable can be found here.
