Premier of Victoria, Mr.
Steve Bracks announced details of the upcoming new V/Line timetable
which will be in effect from 3rd September.
At the press announcement
at Ballarat station this morning, Mr. Bracks stated that rail
services to regional Victoria will increase by 41%, with 287 new
weekday peak, off-peak and late night services, and 114 new weekend
services.
The majority of train
services on the Ballarat, Bendigo, Traralgon and Geelong lines will
be operated by new VLocity 160 units, with these services running to
a faster timetable.
Along with the new rail
timetable, a new coach timetable will come into effect, with details
of this to be announced later on in the month.

In addition to the above,
there will be 12 more Bairnsdale and Shepparton services weekly, 10
more Ararat services, three more Albury services and two more
Warrnambool services.
Trains will also return to
Echuca as per the previous V/Line timetable, with a service to
Echuca on Friday night and Sunday afternoon, and a return service on
Sunday night.
As stated, the new VLocity
trains will operate the majority of services, however, sprinters
will still operate some services between interurban locations, along
with locomotive hauled trains operating services to intercity
destinations and selected weekday peak services.
The new timetables on all
lines (except the Gippsland line) will come into effect on Sunday
September 3 2006, with the new Gippsland line services set to come
into effect in October upon the completion of signal testing and
driver training, after four months of Regional Fast Rail upgrade
works.
